I decided to take my family on a true outdoor weekend to Greeley Colorado. You might be saying to yourself why Greeley? Well I say why not Greeley.
After our 12 hour car ride we finally pulled up to our home for the weekend at Carter Lake camp grounds. It took us awhile to figure out how to put the tent together but we finally got it.
There was plenty to do at the campsite from boating, sailing, fishing, scuba diving to water skiing. If that isn't enough you can also can rock climb and hike to your hearts content. I was able to catch and enjoy some big fish... or so I thought. Whatever you catch has to be thrown back.
Since I couldn't make my own dinner for the family we had to venture out and check out the local food and stumbled about Kenny's Steakhouse. Kenny's is only 9 years old and delivers your steak on a hot plate still cooking. Best steak I've ever had.
I was fortunate enough to be in Greeley during the famous Greeley Stampede which dates back to the 1800's and has a very long and rich tradition. This is Greeley Colorado's largest community celebration and was started to honor local potato farmers. The Stampede has since grown into an internationally famous festival attracting close to 450,000 people annually from all parts of the United States and several foreign countries.
We were apart of those 450,000 people and what a time we had. They had plenty to see and do from Pro Rodeo, Bull-Riding and Kids Rodeos, Country and Classic Rock Concerts, Demolition Derby, 4th of July Parade, Carnival Midway, Western Art Show, Free Stage Entertainment, and loads of festival grounds activities, mixed with food and fun galore. The stampede is a real celebration of western hospitality, just like the old west.
When we finally packed up the car and headed towards home, we were exhausted and said to ourselves "Why Not Greeley?" |
